The Right Swipe.
Imelda G. did not want a relationship, and she was adamant about that. The 28-year-old was at a point in her life where she was focused solely on her career in media and personal growth. Her outlook on dating was positive, but she wasn’t exactly looking for the end-all-be-all of love. She knew she wanted to meet people and discover others while still discovering herself, so she decided to download the Bumble app- a social dating app designed to allow women to make the first move when communicating with a potential match. One swipe later, she connected with Austin E.
Austin, 32, is a Security Consultant and Marine Veteran who had been single for six years and had tried every dating app to no avail. A bit of a hopeless romantic, he was hoping to connect with someone special. After being on the Bumble app for some time, he eventually encountered Imelda, who is, as he describes, “A great woman always motivated to do great things!” The pair shared coffee and conversation on the first date, sharing their life stories for hours and what seemed like forever. At that moment, they had both realized that they had found the one.
Imelda recalls realizing Austin was the one because of how patient and understanding he was from the very moment they met. Austin allowed her to be her true self and was so kind and caring to her family. Austin realized Imelda was the one because of her great sense of humor, self-respect, and ambition. Together, they became a match made in heaven.
A year and a half later, the pair had grown inseparable as a beautiful, loving, healthy couple. After a while, however, Austin knew that it was time for him to put a ring on it. He quickly understood the assignment, got Imelda’s family’s blessing, and started brainstorming ways to ask his beautiful girlfriend to be his permanent life partner and loving wife.
The day before Halloween, in October of 2021, the pair went to a friend’s house as they prepared for a Halloween party later that night. While at the friend’s house, with the help of some of Imelda’s closest girlfriends, Austin got everyone to distract her. At the same time, he took her Beanie Boo stuffed animal she had brought with her and put the engagement ring on the arm of the Beanie Boo. When Imelda returned to the table where they were sitting at and noticed the stuffed animal, she thought something was off. Not only was Austin acting weird, but the Beanie Boo had a ring on it that wasn’t there before. At that moment, Austin got on one knee and proposed to Imelda in the most romantic way. He had been practicing asking her to marry him in her native Spanish Language. Of course, she said yes.
Austin & Imelda are now set to wed in May of 2023. In hindsight, they realized they both made a bold decision the day they connected after swiping on the Bumble dating app. It was the right swipe after all. A swipe that would change their lives forever and make them fall head over heels in love.
